Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the concept of God is intrinsically linked to one's own state of being and suffering. He suggests that instead of viewing God as an external entity, one should investigate the cause-effect chain of their own mistakes and suffering. By deeply examining the nature of suffering, one begins to see the absence of a real self or an internal entity. He emphasizes that as long as an individual perceives themselves as an internal entity, they will naturally perceive God as an external one. Life is experiential, and while God or peace are not elements of experience, the frustration with suffering is a real experience that leads one toward spirituality. He clarifies that the goal of spirituality is not to provide new or divine experiences, but to offer freedom from bothersome ones. Liberation is not a positive experience to be gained on top of suffering; rather, it is the absence of suffering itself. Therefore, experience serves as a judge of one's ego and liberation, not of God. He asserts that God is defined by the individual's needs: for the lonely, God is freedom from loneliness; for the suffering, God is freedom from suffering. God is that which fulfills the unfulfilled state of the individual. Acharya Prashant concludes that spirituality begins with the honest admission of being unwell. One's love for God is directly proportional to their desire for the dissolution of their own suffering. To say 'I want my suffering to end' is the same as saying 'I love God.' Ultimately, the intensity of one's self-love determines the intensity of their love for God, as God represents the ultimate fulfillment and the cessation of the sufferer's plight.
