Description

Acharya Prashant explains that what is commonly experienced as love is often a trick of physical nature. True love is characterized by the courage and inclination to discard everything else for the sake of the beloved. It is a force that pushes one toward the infinite, making everything else inconsequential. If love makes a person more possessive, theoretical, or attached to the world, it is not genuine love. Real love purifies the individual, making them light and empowering them to leave everything behind. It makes one a beggar who owns nothing except that love, as the beloved is the only thing of value. Regarding relationships, Acharya Prashant suggests that their worth is determined by whether they lead the mind toward the truth. A person who clarifies the mind and brings it closer to the truth is worthy of love. Conversely, if a relationship causes agitation, distraction, or deeper immersion in illusions, it is not true love. He advises evaluating the effect a person has on one's life—whether they purify or taint the mind. While a state exists where one's relationship with the truth is so direct that external company no longer matters, most people remain identified with the material and the body. Until one reaches a state of complete immunity where company no longer affects them, Acharya Prashant emphasizes the importance of being discreet and careful. Life is significantly influenced by one's environment and the company one keeps. Therefore, one must be vigilant about the people they meet, the things they read, and the information they consume. Until a person is strong enough to quit all care, they must maintain defenses and not allow external influences in indiscriminately.
