Description

Acharya Prashant clarifies that the true meaning of 'earning' is indeed to get rid of the six inner enemies, and nothing else. He explains that, in reality, there is no other meaning of earning. He quotes Kabir Saheb, "Kabira, accumulate that wealth which will be useful in the future." The wealth that can take you forward, beyond the body and nature (Prakriti), is the only true wealth. He emphasizes that currency and money are not considered wealth in this context. The etymological root of 'dhan' (wealth) is that which makes you 'dhanya' (blessed). This is why saints refer to the Supreme as 'Dhani' (the wealthy one). Acharya Prashant cites another verse from Kabir Saheb: "Kabir, a true warrior is one who fights for the sake of the Dhani." He questions if this means a warrior fights for money, like a mercenary. He clarifies that 'Dhani' here refers to the Supreme. When one fights for the Supreme, they do not care for their body, as the body was given for this very purpose. The verse continues, "Even if his body is cut into pieces, he does not leave the battlefield." The battlefield (khet) here means the field of action (kshetra). He uses the analogy of the body being like petrol and consciousness being the vehicle; the petrol is meant to be spent to move forward. Before the corpse is burned, the petrol must be used up. Anything that can lead you to your destination is wealth. Knowledge is wealth, and strength is wealth. Even money can be wealth, but only if it is used for liberation. A person is not poor because they lack resources, but because they do not use their resources for liberation. One who misuses their resources, whether they have few or many, is truly poor. Conversely, a wealthy person is one who knows how to use whatever they have correctly. Your resource is only wealth when it is used for the 'Dhani' (the Supreme); otherwise, it is just a resource, not wealth. When asked about whose liberation is sought since the Atman is already free, he explains that it is the liberation of the 'I' (ego). It is the 'I' that is in bondage, the 'I' that says, "I am in trouble," or "I have a headache." The 'I' that sits at the center of our consciousness is the one that is trapped.
