Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the meaning of the 'heart' in spirituality is created by the mind. He cautions that if a meaning is given, one will start thinking about it and form another mental concept. Therefore, he advises against asking for a meaning. Instead, one should understand that the mind is limited. To grasp this, one must honestly observe the mind's limitations. The mind is finite, and what lies beyond it does not exist in the same way the mind does; the very word 'is' does not apply there. However, it is certain that the mind has a limit and it stops. Since the mind has a limit, there must be something beyond it, perhaps in another, unthinkable dimension. That which is beyond the mind's reach, beyond ordinary capacity, is called the heart. Thought cannot reveal much about it. The heart is related to whatever in life brings peace and tranquility without any discernible reason. For instance, the mind cannot explain why one is fond of the open sky, why a bird's flight can leave one speechless, why love suddenly takes hold, or why freedom is cherished even amidst all comforts. These experiences are of the heart. Acharya Prashant advises not to try to 'go' to the heart or be eager to reach it, as alertness and effort cannot take you there. He asks rhetorically if anyone has ever seen someone fall in love with alertness. To know the heart, one must live from the heart. Those who live from the soul are the only ones who can know the soul. He points out that the common seeker's desire is to know through the intellectual path, to define and contain the heart within a mental concept. However, if it could fit within the mind, it would not be the divine reality.
