Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the issue of comparison, noting that people often only want to stop comparing themselves with those who are more successful while continuing to compare with those who are less successful. He explains that comparison is a psychological disease and that one cannot demand the highs of success without also experiencing the lows. He suggests that if one must compare, they should compare themselves with enlightened beings like Shri Buddha, Shri Guru Nanak Dev, Shri Mahavira, or Shri Krishna, rather than getting caught in the relative game of material possessions like cars or private jets. He further explains that everyone in the material world is suffering from the same ailment of comparison, likening it to patients in a hospital comparing their different illnesses. The real problem is not the lack of material wealth but the act of comparison itself. Most people do not truly want to be free from comparison; they simply want to upgrade their material status. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that as long as an individual identifies as a limited, physical, or biological entity—which he refers to as a lump of clay—they will remain trapped in comparison. To overcome this, he advises changing one's company and environment. Instead of associating with those who are also obsessed with comparison, one should turn towards the teachings of Saints and sacred Scriptures. By looking at the lives of those who transcended comparison, such as Shri Siddhartha Gautama, one can realize the futility of material competition. He concludes that true transformation occurs when one stops viewing themselves as a physical form to be improved and instead seeks a deeper understanding of their true nature, which lies beyond the reach of scales and measurements.
