Acharya Prashant addresses a question about the deeply rooted caste system in society. He explains that to eliminate caste, one must have something higher in life, in the face of which caste becomes insignificant. He gives the example of the people in his foundation, who, united by a higher purpose, are not even curious about each other's caste. He states that the elimination of caste begins with the death of curiosity about it. This curiosity about trivial matters persists as long as one lives in body-consciousness, without a clear purpose or clarity in life. Acharya Prashant posits that only two things can break the caste system: either animalism (pashuta) or consciousness (chetna). He explains that those who have completely fallen into animalism, like the patrons of brothels, do not care about caste. He illustrates this with an anecdote from a Bengali novel where a man who has just been intimate with a prostitute refuses to drink water from her hand due to her caste, to which she retorts that he was just licking her spit. Similarly, those who have risen high in consciousness, like sages and saints, are also beyond caste. The problem of caste, he says, exists for the worldly people who are in a limbo between these two states. He further elaborates that there are two ways to eliminate caste. The modern, liberal way is to make everyone an animal, bringing them to a common low level where everyone is equal. The spiritual way, however, is to elevate everyone to a higher level of consciousness where they become one. He clarifies that at the level of the body (animalism) and the soul (consciousness), there is no caste. Caste exists only in the mind, which thrives on creating divisions and differences to establish its own identity. The ego needs an 'other' to define the 'I'. He concludes that spirituality is the only real solution to eradicate the caste system. Until one falls in love with the infinite, many such diseases will persist. Addressing a questioner in an inter-caste relationship facing parental opposition, he advises her to first examine the basis of her relationship. If the choice of a partner is based on understanding and consciousness, the love will have the strength to overcome any obstacle. However, if it is merely an accidental, unconscious attraction, it will lack the power to stand against opposition and will be easily broken.
