Acharya Prashant addresses a young student struggling with deep inferiority and suicidal thoughts due to repeated failures in education and employment. He explains that while hard work is necessary, it does not guarantee success because factors like luck, coincidence, and natural talent are beyond one's control. He advises focusing on hard work, which is within one's power, while remaining indifferent to external outcomes. He emphasizes that one must never allow external failures to touch their inner core or soul. He makes a vital distinction between making a mistake and being a failure as a person. Even if one has made many errors, the soul remains pure and untouched. Acharya Prashant explains that maintaining an inner sense of freedom is essential for self-improvement; if the entire self feels bound by failure, there is no part left to correct the mistakes. He uses the metaphor of a free hand to describe the soul, which can untie the rest of the body's bonds. He encourages acknowledging mistakes with humility without letting them define one's existence or worth.
