Description

Acharya Prashant explains that ordinary consciousness is a universe revolving around the insecure and self-centric 'I' sense. He notes that human thoughts are almost always anchored to the self, even when the subject appears distant or secular. This 'I' sense is the entity that experiences suffering, as the physical body only experiences chemical pain while the absolute truth is beyond suffering. Consequently, spirituality is intended specifically for the ego, rather than for the body or the truth. He emphasizes that one must honestly admit to suffering and have faith that it is needless to move toward liberation. To understand the source of the ego, Acharya Prashant suggests examining its fruits, which are illusion and unfulfilled promises. He describes the ego as an illusion that is taken as existent, comparing it to the daughter of a barren woman. While the ego seeks peace, dissolution, and fulfillment, it can only reach these states by paying the price of its own existence. He explains a unique relationship where the ego and fulfillment are mutually exclusive; the presence of one necessitates the absence of the other. Although suffering can lead to liberation, it does not happen automatically because humans often remain resilient and continue to bear suffering without ending the ego.
