Description

Acharya Prashant clarifies the fundamental distinction between facts and truth, explaining that truth is not a fact because facts exist in relation to an observer, whereas truth exists only in the absence of the 'I'. He asserts that as long as an individual exists as a separate entity, they can only have a relationship with facts. Truth and the individual cannot coexist; therefore, any relationship with truth is impossible, and only surrender or total disappearance of the self allows for truth. He emphasizes that truth is not something one can find, relate to, or do anything with, as it involves the annihilation of the ego. The speaker further explains that silence of words or physical silence is merely a fact that can be expressed in language, but it is not truth because the 'I' remains present to claim that silence. He rejects the notion of 'personal truths', stating that if truth is relative to an individual, it is not truth at all but merely a fact. While the mind can potentially know all facts within the dimensions of space and time, it cannot know the truth because truth is indescribable and beyond the mind's reach. He describes the universe as a bubble within the truth rather than truth being a property of the universe. Acharya Prashant concludes by advising that one should limit themselves to being fully conscious of facts, as that is the highest possibility for the human mind. He suggests that asking 'what is the truth' is essentially a desire for the death of the limited self. By dealing honestly with facts, one does the best they can and must then leave the rest to the truth itself. He maintains that truth is unknowable to the limited brain apparatus and that one's focus should remain on the conscious observation of facts.
