Description

In response to a question about how to relate to oneself and others in a chaotic world, Acharya Prashant explains that all the occupants of the house, which is your mind, are actually trespassers and encroachers. The house is yours, and if you love it, you would not ask how to get it vacated; you would kick the occupiers out. He states that these occupiers are not in you out of love but as an act of violence. They have come to make an imprint on your impressionable, delicate mind. He questions why one would harbor or provide shelter to them, reminding the listener that the law of existence is on their side. If you do not want this invalid occupation to continue, it cannot. The thoughts and influences that have found a place in your mind are the ones you relate to and have allowed entry. This happens either because you perceive some profit in it or because you are unconscious, like being drunk and sleeping with the gate wide open. In this state, strangers come and occupy your mind, fooling and drugging you to keep you unconscious and non-resistive to their presence. These occupiers fight with each other for domination, to rule and exploit you. The solution is to wake up, get up, and command ownership of your mind. Acharya Prashant advises being ruthless in this matter. He introduces the concept of "Nirmam," which translates to "not-mine." While it can have a pejorative meaning of "cruel" in common language, its spiritual meaning is to declare to these influences, "You are not mine." This is a life-affirmative cruelty. Their presence is sanctioned by you, and you must withdraw that sanction. They are not lovers or friends, and their presence is not a forcible occupation but something you have allowed. Once you are fully conscious, you will not tolerate their presence anymore, as they exist only as long as your ignorance and unconsciousness persist.
