Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the question of why spiritually awakened gurus sometimes commit wrongful acts. He explains this in two parts. Firstly, if a person is engaging in such actions, their spiritual awakening is, at best, very minimal and partial. It's not a full awakening but more like a state of drowsiness. Such a person has not yet attained liberation (mukti). Their ego is still very much intact. While their ego might be less than that of an ordinary person, the darkness is still very dense within them. Secondly, he advises having some compassion for such individuals because Maya (illusion) and Avidya (ignorance) are not weak forces; they can make anyone dance to their tunes, even the best of people. He quotes Kabir Saheb, "Maya mahathagni hum jaani" (I know Maya to be the great deceiver). Many gurus and swamis assume they have conquered Maya, but when Maya plays its trick, they are completely defeated. While many are simply agents of Maya, some may have made a sincere and honest effort on the spiritual path but still fell prey to the goddess Maya. When asked about the role of Prarabdha (destiny from past actions), Acharya Prashant states that everyone's Prarabdha is essentially the same. All beings are on a journey. From a limited perspective, like looking at individual drops in a river, their paths seem different. However, from a broader view, it is all one journey. There is no real difference between one human and another, as all are manifestations of Prakriti (nature). The only true distinction is between the 'ghat' (the form, the body) and the 'aghat' (the formless).
