Acharya Prashant advises that before choosing a profession, one must first identify and resolve not to do certain kinds of work. Any business or industry that thrives on human weakness, bestiality, and insecurity should be completely avoided. One should make a list of all such jobs where profit increases as the human being degenerates, and stay away from them. These are businesses that flourish in places where the human mind is most dirty, violent, and perverted. One must avoid any work that profits from fear, violence, disease, greed, or by confusing people. Instead of focusing on the market, one should look at the state of the world and determine what work is truly needed. The work to be done is that which is necessary, regardless of whether it currently has a market or generates profit. It is possible that such essential work may not have an established industry. One must have faith that if the work is necessary, arrangements for basic sustenance like food and clothing will be made, though a large house is not guaranteed. There are people, albeit a minority, who recognize and will support the right work. With perseverance, help will come from various places. One should stop worrying about where the money will come from; it will be arranged for a simple, dignified life, not for accumulating billions. To maintain the freedom to choose the right work, it is crucial to keep one's needs and expenses low. Many people are trapped in undesirable jobs because they have inflated their expenses. One should avoid creating a structure of high fixed expenses, like large EMIs or rent, early in life. Before understanding life, one should not create large financial burdens, as this compels one to do any kind of work, right or wrong.
