Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the desire to 'let go' or practice detachment often becomes a superficial effort because the mind remains centered on the very object it wishes to release. He suggests that instead of trying to force detachment, one should investigate the nature of the 'I' that is holding on. By questioning who is grasping and what is being sought, the mind's grip naturally loosens. He emphasizes that true letting go happens unconsciously and silently; if one is aware of the act of letting go, the ego is still involved and may even tighten its grip out of fear. He uses the analogy of a sleeping child whose hand naturally releases a pencil to illustrate that detachment occurs when the outward-looking mind turns inward and finds peace. He further explains that the most effective way to move past the past or painful memories is not through the effort to forget, but through total engagement with the Truth or the Divine. Trying to forget someone only deepens their memory. Instead, one should become so 'busy' in spiritual pursuit that there is no room for trivial memories, guilt, or self-doubt. He defines spirituality as this preoccupation with the Divine. When the heart is occupied by Truth, absurd memories naturally fade away without the need for a conscious decision or vow. This state of being 'lost' in the Divine is the only way to achieve true stability and freedom from the past. Addressing the issue of past mistakes, Acharya Prashant describes life as a journey from incompleteness to completeness. Time is the opportunity given to fulfill this purpose. If one realizes that time has been wasted or wrong directions were taken, the solution is not to sit and lament or feel guilty, as guilt itself consumes more time. Instead, one must move toward the right direction with double the intensity. He warns against using past errors as an excuse for further inaction. Since there is only this one life and no second chance, every remaining moment and every ounce of energy should be dedicated to moving toward the Truth with absolute resolve.
