Description

Acharya Prashant responds to a question about whether we need to create gods or if they already exist within us. He clarifies that it is not about creating but awakening. You cannot create anything; you can only awaken it. There is no need to create anything because all the gods are within you, but they are dormant. He gives the analogy of Hanuman, who was also asleep and had to be awakened by Jambavan. Jambavan reminded Hanuman of his forgotten powers, like his ability to leap and swallow the sun. Similarly, all powers are within us, and all gods are representatives or symbols of our own powers. However, these powers remain dormant within us. In some, one power is more dormant, while in others, another power is slightly awakened. There can be numerous types of powers and people. Within some, one quality may be present, while another quality may be present in others. But the potential for all excellent qualities exists in everyone. Acharya Prashant further explains that since the discussion is about qualities (gunas), it relates to Prakriti (nature), as all qualities belong to Prakriti. Naturally, everyone is different, but there are only three qualities. So, everyone has everything within them, some less and some more. The one who has less of one quality will surely have more of another. All gods and all demons are related to these qualities and are present within you. Some are awake, and some are asleep. It is up to you to decide whom to keep asleep and whom to awaken. And who is it that is awake and needs to be given a sleeping pill? It is all for you to decide. It may seem unbelievable that everything is within you, but all powers are within you. It is you who has to decide. Even the one who comes from outside to awaken you is also someone you have to decide upon. Outside, there is all sorts of material available—both that which will awaken you and that which will put you to sleep. You have to decide which force to approach. Ultimately, the whole game is in your hands. We are a joke played upon ourselves. We are the ones who make ourselves foolish. We are fun-loving. The sages want to tell you that you are the son of nectar, you are the beginningless, endless Atma itself, which cannot be cut by weapons or burnt by fire. But we cry about our weaknesses. By crying about our weaknesses, we are worshipping the demons within. A demon is that within you which wants to keep you weak. And if the demon within you dominates, you will gather people in your life who also want to keep you weak. A god is one who pushes you towards strength, even if you have to be abused for it. We need such a god who dismisses our weaknesses and compulsions, on whom our excuses do not work.
