Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the question of how one can attain liberation while engaged in daily work. He begins by refuting the premise that one has any 'own action' or 'own work'. He calls this a widespread misconception, explaining that just because one is conditioned to do something, it does not become their true action. He clarifies that people often misinterpret the concept of 'Swadharma' from the Bhagavad Gita, thinking it refers to their professional or caste-based duties. He asserts that all such worldly actions are 'fake actions' and that there is only one real action. Citing Shri Krishna's words from the Gita, 'Abandon all dharmas and take refuge in me alone,' Acharya Prashant explains that this is the only true and fundamental action for every individual, regardless of their profession. A farmer's real work is not agriculture, nor is a soldier's real work war. The fundamental action for everyone is to move towards the Truth. All other activities are merely means to earn a livelihood and should not be taken so seriously that they become one's identity. He distinguishes between being a soldier by profession and being a soldier from the soul (Atma), stating that the soul is one and has no such identity. He dismisses the idea of attaining liberation as a 'bonus' while continuing with one's life unchanged as a convenient but false notion. He states that there is only one true responsibility: to seek the Truth. All other perceived responsibilities are false. When asked what liberation is, he explains that it depends on one's suffering. If there is no suffering, there is no need for liberation. Using the analogy of a patient visiting a doctor, he emphasizes that one must first acknowledge their suffering. The end of suffering is liberation.
