Description

Acharya Prashant addresses a question regarding the inner fear that arises when one attempts to do something good. He explains that there are two entities within a person: the true self, which is pure consciousness and presence, and the 'other' which has been shaped by centuries of conditioning, biology, and past impressions. This second entity is essentially Maya, and it is responsible for the voices of fear, anger, and desire. He emphasizes that while this conditioned self is within us, it is actually 'alien' or foreign to our true nature. He describes the state of meditation as one where all worldly identities—such as gender, age, ethnicity, and social status—fall away, leaving only pure attention. However, once meditation breaks, the old identities and their associated fears return. Acharya Prashant advises that one cannot simply silence or suppress these conditioned voices because they possess immense power derived from the material world. Instead of trying to stop them, one should simply choose not to give them importance or value. He further explains that a human being functions as three entities: the true self, the false self, and the one who chooses between them. The false self, influenced by the body and past tendencies, will continue to speak as long as the physical body exists. Even great sages and saints are not exempt from these voices. The difference between an ordinary person and a wise one is not the absence of these voices, but the refusal to stand in their favor. He concludes by urging the listener to remain on the side of the true self and to ignore the demands of the conditioned mind.
