Description

Acharya Prashant explains the intricate relationship between stress, laziness, rest, and energy. He clarifies that laziness is not a lack of energy but rather the natural consequence of misdirected and chaotic energy caused by stress. Stress is described as the madness of energy and a manifestation of the ego, where the individual falsely believes they are the sole doer. This constant state of agitation leads to exhaustion and a state of mental heaviness called 'pramada' (insensitivity or stupor), where the ego seeks continuous consumption to maintain its false existence. Consequently, the individual's energy is entirely consumed by 'self-servicing' and maintaining their own mental constructs, leaving no energy for meaningful or purposeful work. In contrast, Acharya Prashant introduces the concept of true rest, which he links to a continuous and harmonious flow of energy. Unlike the chaotic bursts of energy seen in stressed individuals, a person in a state of rest performs actions without the burden of doership. This is exemplified by Kabir Saheb, who called himself a 'slave' because he surrendered the ownership of his actions. In this state, work becomes a natural shadow of one's being, occurring effortlessly whether one is laughing, walking, or even sleeping. True rest is not the absence of activity but the absence of the mind's unnecessary wandering. It is the state of 'Jagrat Sushupti'—being awake on the outside while remaining in deep, undisturbed sleep on the inside. Acharya Prashant advises against the 'practice of energy' and instead advocates for the 'practice of rest,' symbolized by Shri Shiva sitting still on Mount Kailash. He emphasizes that when the mind stops its futile leakages—driven by fear, insecurity, and the constant worry of 'what will happen to me'—energy is naturally preserved and directed toward what is auspicious. He warns that fear-based productivity, while seemingly successful, comes at the cost of inner peace. Finally, he urges the listener to stop worrying about the future utility of saved energy, as the transformation itself will create a new individual who is free from the ego's need to control and possess energy.
