Description

Acharya Prashant explains that habits are ancient, deep-seated patterns of the mind and body that often pull an individual back into old cycles. He emphasizes that one should not wait for the mind to be completely purified or for habits to vanish before seeking peace or truth. Just as one would not ignore a loved one to focus on cleaning a corner of a room, one should not put life or devotion on hold to fix every mental impurity. He suggests that habits gain strength through both resistance and support; therefore, the most effective approach is to remain indifferent toward them. By recognizing that nothing exists besides the Truth, habits lose their power and one becomes neutral toward them. He further clarifies that spiritual practice should not be centered on fixing habits or mental tendencies, as focusing on these problems only keeps them at the center of one's attention. Instead, one must keep the Truth or Shri Ram at the center of their being. While the world and its habits continue their play, the seeker should remain unattached and devoted to the Truth. Acharya Prashant also addresses the common misconception that spirituality is a means to attain happiness or pleasant experiences. He asserts that spirituality does not guarantee worldly happiness and may even bring discomfort as it breaks down the ego. True bliss is distinct from happiness and can exist even amidst suffering. He warns that seeking specific spiritual experiences is a form of restlessness, as the Truth itself cannot be experienced as a worldly object or sensation.
