Description

Acharya Prashant explains that willpower is only sought when one feels fear or faces self-imposed restrictions. He argues that willpower is an antidote to fear; therefore, the more afraid or restricted a person feels, the more willpower they believe they require. He suggests that instead of trying to enhance willpower, one should seek clarity and wisdom. When an individual realizes that the obstacles they face are often imaginary or based on false beliefs, the need for willpower disappears. He illustrates this by pointing out that simple actions, like nodding one's head or engaging in a sport one enjoys, do not require willpower because there is no fear or resistance involved. However, if a person believes they are in danger or is forced to do something they do not enjoy, they feel the need for motivation and courage. Acharya Prashant concludes that wisdom and clarity are sufficient to act freely. Once a person stops subscribing to self-imposed restrictions and sees things as they are, the concept of willpower becomes unnecessary.
