Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the common proverb that an empty mind is the devil's workshop, clarifying that the devil actually resides in a mind that is already occupied by devilish tendencies. He explains that the contents of one's mind are determined by who sits at its center. If the ego identifies with devilish traits, it will invite and harbor such thoughts. Therefore, it is not a matter of the mind being empty or full, but rather a question of who the owner of the house is. The devil only enters a home where the nameplate matches his own nature, meaning one's internal state dictates the external influences they attract. He further describes the concept of an empty mind through the metaphor of a wandering monk or 'Sadhu'. Unlike the devil, who seeks to establish a permanent base in the world, a monk is a traveler who does not stay. When a monk enters the mind, he cleanses it, performs sacred acts, and then departs toward his true home. A truly empty mind is one that is not filled with worldly attachments. To achieve this emptiness, the mind must first be filled with saintly influences that perform the work of purification and then leave, whereas the devilish mind remains perpetually cluttered because the devil intends to stay and occupy the space.
