Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the two eyes of Shri Shiva, symbolized by the Sun and the Moon, represent the duality of day and night. These eyes perceive everything that appears fragmented and divided. They can only see things that have an opposite, such as white against a black background. Seeing the Sun and the Moon signifies seeing the world through the lens of duality, which is dependent on one's state of consciousness and exists within the constraints of time. In this regard, Shri Shiva sees the same world that we see, but with a fundamental difference. The third eye is symbolized by fire, representing the total incineration and destruction of illusion. Acharya Prashant clarifies that the third eye is not a physical entity but a symbol of awakening or understanding. It does not see something extra or special; rather, it reveals the falseness of what the two ordinary eyes perceive. While the two eyes see the world, the third eye recognizes the world's deceptive nature. It is the state of being where one identifies illusion as illusion, which is only possible when one is not deluded. Shri Shiva is defined as the one whose third eye has opened, allowing him to see the world while simultaneously seeing its falseness. Shri Shiva represents the essence and center of the world—non-duality existing in the middle of duality. The third eye ensures that the world does not dominate the individual; even if the eyes see something attractive, there is an internal realization of its true nature. Just as Shri Shiva exists as the lord of animals amidst animality, the third eye represents the presence of truth amidst the deceptive play of the world. It is a symbol of being awake, ensuring that one does not become a slave to worldly interests. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that spirituality is not about accumulating more information or knowledge. Instead, it is about waking up, which causes ordinary knowledge to vanish. While a dreaming mind knows many things, an awakened mind leaves such information behind. True spiritual understanding is beyond words and cannot be collected like data. The third eye does not create more; it eliminates and burns away the false. Spirituality is the process of becoming lighter by incinerating illusions and moving beyond the collection of worldly information.
