Description

Acharya Prashant explains that spiritual reformers like Shri Buddha and Mahavira did not initially seek to destroy existing traditions like the Vedas or Upanishads. A liberated being is not a destroyer by choice but a reformer who only resorts to dismantling old structures when they become so corrupted that reform is no longer possible. When the ruling classes or established systems refuse to listen to the original essence of scriptures due to vested interests, a new presentation of truth using new myths and theories becomes necessary. This shift is not a personal preference of the saint but a response to the adverse conditions of the time. He further clarifies that a liberated person possesses no fixed personality, mood, or personal preference. Whether a saint appears silent and grave like Shri Buddha or ecstatic and dancing like Bulleh Shah, it is a reflection of what the society of that time required. The silence of Shri Buddha was a medicinal response to the excessive noise of empty rituals and superstitions. Similarly, modern figures like Osho and Jiddu Krishnamurti adopted different personas to cater to different audiences. A true Guru is like a chameleon who can assume any form—be it a lover, a teacher, or even a fearful figure—solely for the benefit and liberation of the seeker. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that one should not mistake a Guru's outward behavior for their personal ego or desire. Their actions are tools of compassion designed to reach individuals where they stand. He warns against turning a saint's specific quotes into rigid doctrines. Instead, a seeker should focus on the teachings that challenge and dissolve their own ego. The ultimate goal of any Guru, regardless of their outward personality or the apparent contradictions in their statements, is to lead the seeker toward the final truth by addressing their specific needs and conditions.
