Description

Acharya Prashant explains that many people claim to have read the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, the Ashtavakra Gita, and the words of Kabir Saheb, yet they remain fearful and sad because they do not implement the teachings. He points out that people often set distant goals like being a witness to avoid the simple, practical changes needed in their behavior. He asks how much of the scripture has been brought into life through resolve. Shri Krishna tells us to leave our self-defined duties and do what is right without concern for the result, but people find it difficult to let go of their personal attachments. He compares this situation to a patient who takes a doctor's prescription but refuses to take the medicine, preferring family remedies instead. People are actually following the advice of the crowd, their ancestors, and social traditions while blaming the spiritual texts for not helping them. He asserts that people do not have the courage to tell their families or society that their traditional ways have ruined their lives. Instead, they find it easier to criticize the scriptures. Acharya Prashant observes that for most, the real gurus are relatives, neighbors, and even actors in advertisements. Life is lived according to a pre-written social script regarding marriage and career, rather than the wisdom of the Upanishads. He notes that people listen to spiritual discourses superficially, like background radio, without any real intent to change. He concludes that if one shows even a little courage to act on the teachings, the strength for further steps will come naturally.
