Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the desire to improve oneself immediately creates hope for the world's improvement. He addresses a question regarding the Isha Upanishad, which suggests that a person should desire to live for a hundred years while performing actions without attachment. He clarifies that the sages recommended a long life not for sensory pleasure, but to provide sufficient time to achieve the difficult goal of liberation from the ego and the influences of nature. For most people, a long duration is a necessary means to reach the ultimate end of spiritual freedom. However, Acharya Prashant points out that the goal is always superior to the means. In the cases of great figures like Swami Vivekananda and Adi Shankaracharya, who died young, they prioritized their mission and the welfare of the world over their physical longevity. When faced with a choice between preserving the body and fulfilling a higher purpose, such individuals choose their mission. Their early departure or physical ailments were not signs of failure but results of intense dedication and tireless work for humanity. He further dispels the myth that a self-realized person must always possess a perfectly healthy or youthful body. He explains that the body is a tool of nature, and when it is used relentlessly for a great cause, it is bound to undergo wear and tear. A true seeker or a liberated soul treats the body as an instrument for their work; while they maintain it to continue their mission, they are willing to sacrifice its health and longevity if the mission demands it. Therefore, the greatness of such masters lies in their total surrender to their purpose, even at the cost of their physical well-being.
