Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human beings are caught in a paradox where they seek security in the known but simultaneously feel bored by it. The mind quickly jumps to the conclusion of 'I know' to feel safe, as the unknown or unknowable creates fear. However, as soon as something enters the domain of knowledge, it becomes repetitive and dull. This demand for security leads to a life filled with boredom and lack of interest. He asserts that those who wish to avoid a monotonous life must be willing to play with the unknown, which requires both fearlessness and humility. Fearlessness is needed to enter the unknown, while humility is required to admit that much remains unknown. He further notes that people often pretend to know things because they lack the courage to face their own ignorance. This pretense is a defense mechanism against the fear of being harmed by the unfamiliar. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that one needs inner strength, which he calls the 'Atman' or 'steel within,' to face the unknown without fear of destruction. Those who live in the 'unborn' or 'unchanging' (Aghat) are not afraid of external events. He concludes that curiosity and inquiry require honesty and courage, whereas fear leads to a stagnant life where everything appears old and familiar. Regarding the struggle with internal tendencies, he advises that one should simply refrain from following the dictates of the resisting mind and recognize the value of their spiritual path by observing the suffering of those in the worldly life.
