Acharya Prashant explains the profound teachings of Ashtavakra regarding the states of consciousness. While it is relatively easy for the mind to accept that the dream state is false because one is awake, and slightly harder to accept that the waking state is also illusory because it is perceived through the senses, Ashtavakra goes further by negating even the fourth state, known as Turiya. Acharya Prashant clarifies that Turiya is not a state that comes and goes like waking, dreaming, or deep sleep. Instead, it is the witness that observes the very process of 'being' and the three states of consciousness. Since Turiya observes the process of existence, it must be distinct from anything that 'is' in the conventional sense of having form, color, or sensory presence.
