Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the concept of Karma is often misunderstood as merely physical action, whereas it encompasses every event occurring in existence and the mind. He clarifies that Karma is synonymous with nature (Prakriti) and is constantly happening. The problem arises when the ego (Ahamkar) claims ownership of these actions, creating the 'doer' (Karta). This sense of doership is what leads to the experience of the fruits of Karma (Karmaphal), resulting in the cycle of pleasure and pain. If one realizes that actions are simply nature functioning and remains a witness (Sakshi), the burden of Karma dissolves. He further distinguishes between pleasure and bliss (Anand), stating that bliss is not a superlative form of pleasure but a state that can coexist even with deep physical or mental pain. While pain is a natural occurrence in the body, suffering is optional and depends on one's identification with the ego. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that true intelligence acts spontaneously without the interference of thought-driven doership. He warns that gaining spiritual knowledge without allowing it to transform one's actions is harmful, as it only adds to the ego's burden. Ultimately, the highest state is 'doing nothing'—allowing nature to take its course without the interference of the 'I'.
