Description

Acharya Prashant addresses a question about the relationship between belief and superstition. He explains that if something exists differently as different thoughts among different people, it is obviously a belief. This applies to the concept of God, which varies among Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists. By definition, this is a belief. Even an atheist turning into a theist at a certain point in life, such as when facing danger, is a belief. The work of someone like Swami Vivekananda is not about God as a concept, but about Truth. God and Truth are different things; what is called God is a concept, whereas Truth is not. Continuing the explanation, Acharya Prashant states that much can be said about God, with stories, various lords, religions, and miscellaneous beliefs. However, nothing at all can be said about Truth. Truth just turns you silent. When asked what one can trust if not the senses or the mind, he responds that one does not need to trust. The question itself implies a trust that trust is important. Trust is not important because it means settlement, conclusion, and the end of the mental process. Instead of trusting, one should be alive, see, and know. One would rather know or understand than trust or believe. There is no need to trust anything; one should approach life with open eyes and an open mind, not with trust or distrust. You are strong and capable, and you don't need to fall back on trust.
