Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human senses are governed by primitive instincts designed to follow an ancient biological order, which he metaphorically refers to as an 'old grandmother' sitting within us. This biological core of the ego operates without our permission, prioritizing physical survival and genetic proliferation above all else. He argues that the senses are built to follow these instincts regardless of one's religion, age, or social status. This ancient order dictates that once an individual is past their reproductive age, they are seen as redundant competitors for resources, which explains why society often marginalizes those who do not reproduce. He notes that even our reactions to immediate physical threats are instinctive and bypass our intellect or wisdom entirely. He further describes the interplay between objects, the mind, the intellect, and the ego. The mind is essentially a random assortment of objects that the biological core of the ego has already chosen based on primitive agendas. The intellect, rather than being a tool for free discovery, often becomes a servant to these instincts, manufacturing logic and reasons to justify choices that were actually made by the biological core behind our backs. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that without self-knowledge, what we perceive as free choice is merely obedience to this ancient jungle rule. He asserts that true humanness begins with the elevation of consciousness through wisdom, such as the teachings of the Gita, which allows one to resist being a passive receiver of instinctive actions and instead exercise true discretion.
