Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the masters attained clarity because they were humble and small people who did not claim to know as much as the modern individual does. One only opens their eyes when they realize the need to see. If one already believes they know everything, they will not make the effort to truly see. The masters opened their eyes because they admitted their need to see constantly, recognizing that constancy is the inner nature. The speaker illustrates this with the example of Kabir Saheb, who spent his life simply watching. His verses originate from this state of watching, of standing and observing. In contrast, the modern person says, "I already know." The speaker points out the paradox: Kabir doesn't know, and therefore he knows, while the one who claims to know so much, in reality, does not. This is the fundamental difference between a seeker and a master. The master is forever open and vigilant, not like a watchman, but like an awakened one. While both a saint and a watchman may be awake at night, the saint is truly awake and seeing. The listener, comfortable in their life, believes they know and thus goes to sleep. The speaker quotes Kabir: "The whole world is happy, it eats and sleeps. The servant Kabir is sad, he is awake and weeps." The listener is among the "happy people," sure that worldly things will bring fulfillment, while Kabir remains awake and watching because he sees that something is amiss. The nakedness of saints like Buddha, Mahavir, or Kabir signifies the absence of concepts, confidence, and borrowed knowledge. It means standing without pretense. The speaker urges the listener to shed their confidence, as the game of life is not what they think it is. Wonderment is the beginning of spirituality. One must learn to look at things with wide-open eyes, to pause and be awestruck, because nothing has truly been revealed yet.
