Description

Acharya Prashant responds to a question about whether humanity's tendency for consumption, which is leading to its destruction, originates from nature itself. He begins by correcting the premise that the destruction of humanity would mean the destruction of nature. He asserts that nature is not such a small thing that it would be wiped out along with humans. Humanity has appeared and disappeared many times, but nature remains. He clarifies that when we speak of nature, we should not limit it to just one species or one planet. Nature encompasses the entire universe, and in this vast expanse, humanity is insignificant. The very thought that humans can destroy nature is a sign of madness. Even if all the nuclear ammunition on Earth were used to destroy the planet, it would make no difference to nature. In the vast timeline of the universe, countless dust particles like Earth have come and gone. The entire cosmic play is that of nature. The speaker urges the audience not to worry about the destruction of nature but to be concerned about their own destruction. He states that saying things like "we are destroying our planet" or "the Earth is sick" is a way of deceiving ourselves. The real dangers for humanity are not external threats like climate change or nuclear disasters, but the internal ones. Life has returned to this planet after many mass extinctions, and it will do so again. However, it is humanity that will not return. The real threat is the rising tide of mental illness, derangement, stress, anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia, which are at unprecedented levels, even higher than during the World Wars. Acharya Prashant explains that humans are the only animals with the freedom to choose what they become. This freedom is a double-edged sword. While it offers the beautiful and rare opportunity for self-upliftment, it also allows for self-degradation. Unfortunately, he notes, 99 out of 100 people choose to become worse than animals. This very freedom has become the cause of our ruin. The only way out is to use this freedom wisely, to constantly be aware of our choices. Choices that lead to downfall are those driven by fear, violence, loneliness, greed, and addiction. Conversely, choices that lead to upliftment are those that make one fearless, non-violent, and compassionate. He concludes by emphasizing that since humans are the animals that must choose, if we do not consciously choose to rise, we are condemned to fall. The only path is to continuously make the choice to uplift oneself.
