Description

Acharya Prashant explains that according to the Bible, nothing entering a person from the outside makes them impure; rather, it is what comes out of the person that causes impurity. He challenges the common ego-driven belief that the external world or circumstances are responsible for one's corruption. He argues that the boundary between 'inside' and 'outside' is an illusion created by the ego. When one identifies strongly with the body, they create a vast expansion of the world and divide it into 'self' and 'other'. This very act of expansion and division is the source of impurity. The world does not make the 'I' impure; instead, the 'I' and the world arise together, and the quality of one's world is identical to the quality of one's own being. He further clarifies that Maya, or illusion, is not an external force that misleads a person. Maya is a creation of the individual's own mind. People often blame their circumstances, family, or society for their troubles, yet they are the ones who choose to remain attached to those very situations. He uses the analogy of a person making a frightening drawing and then becoming scared of it, or someone refusing to change dirty clothes while blaming the clothes for the smell. The speaker emphasizes that the world is like a slave that does exactly what the individual secretly desires. If a person feels oppressed by the world, it is because they have a deep-seated desire for that conflict or suffering. True liberation comes from realizing that one is the source of their own world and its impurities.
