Description

Acharya Prashant explains that restlessness is the fundamental existential problem of human life, often manifesting as a sense that something is not right. This restlessness leads to the ego's lack of peace and drives individuals to chase external objects or desires, which he terms 'Sakama' or desire-driven living. He argues that desire is not caused by external objects but stems from our internal state of incompleteness. Most people attempt to solve this internal pain by rushing toward sensory gratifications, a process that often involves deceit and competition because multiple people desire the same limited resources. This pursuit of desire necessitates two types of dishonesty: external deception of others to gain objects and internal hypocrisy to convince oneself that these acquisitions have brought true satisfaction. He contrasts desire with 'Ishq' or true love, which he defines as a deep commitment to one's own highest well-being and the soul. While desire is a 'crooked' path that ignores the nature of the seeker and focuses only on the road, Ishq is a 'straight' path characterized by simplicity and self-knowledge. True love involves the willingness to sacrifice one's current, lower self to attain a higher state of being. Acharya Prashant clarifies that spirituality does not demand the abandonment of relationships but rather their elevation. When one is established in Ishq, their relationships naturally become more refined and truthful because they are no longer based on exploitation or the desperate need to fill an internal void. He concludes by emphasizing that self-knowledge is the only real cure for restlessness, as it addresses the root cause rather than chasing temporary and destructive illusions.
