Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the fear of loneliness is not actually a fear of being alone, but a fear of the internal disturbances, thoughts, and 'ghosts' that reside within the mind. When one is busy with the world, work, or social gatherings, these internal disturbances remain hidden or suppressed. However, as soon as external distractions are removed and one is physically alone, these internal 'robbers' and 'ghosts' emerge, causing restlessness and anxiety. He uses the analogy of a robber hiding in a house during a party; the owner feels safe while guests are present, but terror strikes once the last guest leaves and the robber reveals himself. Acharya Prashant argues that people mistakenly try to cure loneliness by inviting more people into their lives, which is a temporary and flawed solution because guests eventually leave. The real solution is to identify and remove the 'outsiders'—the unnecessary thoughts and attachments—that have taken residence inside the mind. He concludes that what people call loneliness is actually the presence of something external that has become internal, and true peace is found only when these internal intruders are dismissed.
