Description

Acharya Prashant explains that while both ignorance and knowledge can spread, ignorance spreads much faster because it aligns with the natural outward orientation of the human senses. He notes that the eyes, ears, and body constantly reinforce the idea of limitation and separation, making it easier for a person to believe they are a limited entity. Ignorance spreads by making an individual feel bound and restricted, which is a natural conclusion drawn from physical experiences. In contrast, knowledge or truth requires an inward journey that goes against the natural biological tendencies of the human constitution. Therefore, without guidance, a person is naturally inclined to remain in a state of ignorance. Referring to the life of Shri Buddha, Acharya Prashant describes how Shri Buddha initially hesitated to share his realization, believing that those capable of finding the truth would do so on their own, while others would not understand it. However, he was persuaded to speak for the sake of those who are neither fully enlightened nor completely ignorant but could understand if guided. Shri Buddha first sought his former teachers and then his five companions who had previously abandoned him. Despite their initial resolve to ignore him, the five companions were moved by Shri Buddha's internal authority and presence, which was reflected in his silence, speech, and conduct. This illustrates that true knowledge is not just heard but is an authentic part of one's existence. Acharya Prashant further clarifies that silence of the lips is merely a step toward the true silence of the mind. While the mind is subtle and its noise often goes unnoticed, physical speech is easier to observe and control. By quieting outward noise, one can gradually move toward inner stillness. He emphasizes that because human evolution has designed the senses to look outward, the realization of non-duality—where inner and outer are one—is not instinctive. This is why meeting a Master is significant; while the senses pull the individual outward into the world of illusions, the Master’s role is to direct the individual inward toward their true, unlimited nature.
