Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the moment an individual commits to self-improvement, they gain immediate hope for the world's betterment. He asserts that those who claim the world or others cannot change are merely reflecting their own stagnation. A person who begins to purify themselves will naturally perceive the potential for purity in everyone else and will feel an innate urge to share that state of innocence. This transformation leads from hope to faith. He emphasizes that the words of the sages in the Upanishads are specifically intended to bring peace to the restless mind. Truth itself is unconditioned and purposeless, making it impossible to describe in words; therefore, the Upanishads use language as a tool for the benefit of the limited human mind. One should look for the utility of these teachings rather than just factual truth. The speaker clarifies that saying nothing is superior to Brahman is a statement made for the benefit of the mind, which perceives diversity and hierarchy. In reality, since Brahman is the whole and everything is contained within it, there is no second entity to compare it with. Brahman is not a superior unit within the world but is beyond all units. Acharya Prashant stresses that humans are constantly faced with choices and decisions, which is both their bondage and the key to their liberation. The Upanishads advise that whenever a choice arises, one should choose Brahman. Since Brahman is not a literal option like choosing between meals, one must use a process of negation to identify the right path. To choose Brahman in daily life, one must look at the attributes used to describe it, such as being homeless, unknowable, free, and without qualities. If a choice leads to worldly attachment, dependency, or is driven by past memories and biological instincts, it is not the path of Brahman. A choice that leads toward liberation, breaks bonds, and reduces dependency is the correct one. Acharya Prashant explains that while the world values being 'virtuous' or 'talented' (Guni), spirituality seeks to transcend all qualities (Nirguna) because qualities belong to the realm of nature and bondage. Ultimately, choosing Brahman means selecting the path that leads to self-reliance, detachment, and the dissolution of the need for external company, moving toward a state of non-duality.
