Description

Acharya Prashant explains the right relationship between the ego and the "stuff" it claims to own. He states that this stuff, which is the world, is transient and always in movement. The correct relationship is for the ego to benefit from this movement by watching it and learning from it. The world is a constant flux, and the right approach is not to interfere or associate but to understand what is happening. In this understanding lies the liberation of the ego, which is wisdom. Foolishness is when the ego, as the false center, gets entangled with the swirling world, which includes the body, thoughts, and memories. The right relationship is to watch and learn, not to run with the world. Nature (Prakriti) is in motion, and getting entangled with it only leads to more movement and suffering, which is the opposite of the rest and peace one truly seeks. The ego must be a watcher, not in a hurry to become part of the world's movement, as this only compounds its existing problems. The solution lies not in associating with the dynamic universe but in understanding its dynamics. This understanding itself is freedom and wisdom. The ego gets entangled because it believes pleasure lies in the world's movement. Fundamentally, the ego is a consumer (bhokta), and to consume, it becomes a doer (karta). The desire to consume comes first, driven by the ignorant belief that running after things will bring pleasure. Greatness does not come from joining the world's blind movement but from understanding its source. The world is like a stream; one cannot own anything in it. It can only be used to reach the ultimate. Therefore, greatness is not measured by accumulations but by the wisdom and swiftness with which one crosses through life. The right relationship with the world is one of utility, not ownership.
