Description

Acharya Prashant explains that life itself is inherently spiritual and sacred, and therefore, no separate spiritual practice is required. He argues that by designating specific places like temples or specific times for meditation, individuals inadvertently claim the rest of their lives and spaces for their own egos, effectively separating themselves from the divine. He emphasizes that holiness is not something to be achieved or imposed upon oneself; rather, every breath and every moment is already spiritual. True intimacy with the divine is quiet and continuous, much like a heartbeat, and does not require outward displays, spiritual clothing, or names. In fact, he suggests that the more one makes an exhibition of spirituality, the further they are from it. He further critiques the modern concept of meditation as a scheduled activity used to cope with stress. He asserts that people often use spiritual practices like yoga or deep breathing as tools to lubricate a life full of exploitation, tension, and false relationships rather than having the courage to drop such a lifestyle entirely. He points out that animals do not need spiritual practices because they do not lead lives of pretense or pursue petty, ego-driven goals. Acharya Prashant concludes that using meditation to calm the mind just to continue performing false or harmful actions is a misuse of spirituality, as it only serves to help the individual absorb more 'rubbish' from their environment.
