Description

Acharya Prashant responds to a questioner who feels disconnected from society after following his teachings. He begins by congratulating her, stating that if being disconnected from society feels like a problem, it is not a true disconnection. One can only be truly disconnected when it feels like liberation. If it feels bothersome, one cannot stay away for long. He clarifies that spirituality is not an ideology but is about truth. The ego dislikes the word 'truth' and prefers to label it as someone's personal opinion or ideology, creating a false dichotomy of 'my truth' and 'your truth'. Truth is one and cannot be expressed in any ideology. Spirituality is about investigating the root of all thoughts and catching the mischief of the thinker. When the thinker's mischief is caught, the thinker, who is nothing but a rogue, disappears. He explains that he is not giving her an ideology but is asking her to investigate her own ideologies—where they come from and who holds them. It is inevitable that when one moves from darkness to light, those who have made darkness their life will feel troubled. He questions the nature of this trouble, asking if it is love, violence, or cruelty. He satirically mentions the popular notion of not hurting anyone's heart, which is often used to justify staying in ignorance. He emphasizes that the quality of one's mind and the quality of one's company are always the same. If the quality of the mind improves, one must change their company. Otherwise, to adjust to the old world, one will be forced to forget the truth they have learned. A choice must be made. He uses a line from Kabir to illustrate that two incompatible things cannot coexist. In the most fundamental matter of life, a person is absolutely alone, and worldly relationships do not matter.
