Description

Acharya Prashant explains that there is no actual difference between thought and action because action always follows the immediate, current thought. The perceived inconsistency arises because thoughts change rapidly. When a person intends to act on one thought, by the time the action occurs, the thought has already shifted due to changing circumstances. Therefore, the real inquiry should be why thoughts keep changing rather than why action differs from thought. He clarifies that thoughts are born from external circumstances; when the mind is not firmly rooted in the Self, it wanders in a world of its own making, attracted to various objects. Acharya Prashant further asserts that the very nature of thought is to change; if it were static, it would not be a thought. He challenges the notion that one can 'become' something better by holding 'good' thoughts, pointing out that a person is essentially nothing more than their current thoughts. Even the attempt to find a state beyond thought often results in just more thoughts about that state. He suggests that true understanding might exist in a state where one knows without the process of thinking or being a 'knower.' The cycle of thoughts continues as long as one tries to use thought to stop thought, leading only to a chain of further mental constructs.
