Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the conflict faced by Arjuna represents the universal struggle of mankind, where Shri Krishna symbolizes the heart within us rather than an external figure. Addressing the necessity of penance and austerity, he clarifies that these practices are essential because individuals suffer due to their attachments to wrong objects. If one truly experiences no suffering, then spirituality and Vedanta are unnecessary; however, most people are deeply entangled with objects that have become part of their personality. He uses the metaphor of a seed growing roots into the soil to illustrate how attachments deepen over time, making separation painful. Austerity is the process of going against oneself to remove these alien elements that have falsely become part of one's identity, much like a stone in a kidney. He concludes that unless one is already liberated, austerity remains a necessary step to prevent foreign influences from defining the self.
