This fundamental fear of death, or the fear of ceasing to exist, is what drives people to cling to family identities and social structures. He further elaborates that all fears are essentially the fear of the loss of identity or mental death. Because humans lack true love and only understand attraction, they seek security through marriage and family, which in turn creates new identities that deepen their fear of loss. Acharya Prashant asserts that relationships can only be vital if they have a spiritual foundation rather than a social one. Spirituality prioritizes Truth above all, whereas society prioritizes individuals and their roles, such as being a father, mother, or spouse. Since society is a creation of the human mind and spirituality is that which is beyond the mind, the two cannot coexist. He concludes by noting that even the act of having children is often a desperate attempt to achieve a form of immortality through one's progeny, which he likens to a 'proxy attendance' in the world.
