Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the human need for approval and validation stems from a desire for control. People often believe that events occur because of their will, creating an illusion of being in charge. He illustrates this through the example of parents who insist on giving permission for their children's actions, not necessarily for the child's welfare, but to satisfy their own ego and maintain a sense of authority. This need for control is so pervasive that individuals even claim ownership over natural processes like breathing, despite having no real power over them. He further discusses how the ego claims credit for thoughts and actions that are not truly its own. Using the analogy of an air conditioner, he suggests that if inanimate objects had egos, they would also claim to be the cause of their functions and the reason people gather around them. Whether one is driven by ego or has transcended it, personal ownership of actions remains a fallacy. Acharya Prashant concludes with a story from 'The Little Prince' about a king who commands the sun to rise and set exactly when it is already destined to do so, highlighting the absurdity of the human tendency to grant 'permission' to the inevitable.
