Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the spiritual soldier, the religious warrior, must be extremely intelligent. He goes to the extent of saying that the warrior has to be cunning in the service of Truth, a word he chooses with deliberation. This cunning must be enough to beat the most cunning of opponents. The difference between the cunningness of the worldly person and the spiritual warrior is that the former has cunningness at their core, whereas the soldier of Truth has Truth at their core and uses cunning in the service of Truth. To illustrate this, the speaker refers to the battle of Mahabharata, where Shri Krishna advises Arjun on several occasions. For instance, Shri Krishna tells Arjun that it is not the right time to fight Drona respectfully and that a strategic lie is necessary. He prompts the announcement, "Ashwatthama is dead, whether man or elephant," knowing it will cause Drona to give up his arms. This demonstrates the use of cunning for a higher purpose. The prerequisite for such action is to have Krishna, or Truth, at one's center. With Truth at the core, one can use Maya (illusion) liberally. The speaker quotes his teacher, Kabir Saheb, who said, "The one who cheats the great cheater (Maya), I bow to that cheater." This reinforces the idea that one must be able to outwit illusion itself. He criticizes the common, misleading image of saints and sages as simple, handicapped, elderly figures who are detached from society and only dispense moral advice like "always speak the truth." He argues that this portrayal is conducive to falseness and irreligiosity. A man of Truth must be extremely sharp-minded. This sharpness, and every other resource one possesses, including business management skills or knowledge of languages, must be used in the service of Truth. One must beat the opponents at their own game. This is possible because while the opponents play for themselves and have too much at stake, the spiritual warrior plays for something beyond the self. This makes them fearless and allows them to win even with fewer resources, as a large part of the opponent's resources is spent defending their own self.
