Description

Acharya Prashant clarifies the true meaning of meditation, challenging the common misconception that it is merely about focusing better on worldly tasks. He explains that meditation is the state of mind when the ultimate goal of liberation or truth is the only objective. He critiques the casual use of the word 'meditation' for mundane activities like cleaning or watching television, stating that true meditation involves questioning whether an action leads one toward their supreme goal. If an action does not contribute to reaching that ultimate destination, it should be abandoned. He emphasizes that nothing is inherently necessary—neither washing one's face nor grooming oneself—unless it serves the purpose of attaining the Divine or resolving one's fundamental restlessness. Meditation, therefore, is the constant awareness of one's purpose. It requires evaluating every small or large act to see if it has any relation to the ultimate truth. If ninety-nine percent of one's activities have no connection to this goal, the demand of meditation is to stop those activities and empty one's life of futility. Life and time are given for the realization of the supreme, not for trivialities.
