Acharya Prashant explains that service will not fulfill the restless 'I', but it will enable you to forget this restless 'I'. This state is described as beyondness. It is not the fulfillment of the little 'I', but rather a certain forgetfulness towards it. When you are serving a cause bigger than yourself or serving others, there is no time or opportunity to keep wondering whether your own demands have been met. When one is restless, they can start dedicating themselves to something bigger and larger. The bigger cause consumes so much attention, time, and energy that one is left with no space to complain or wonder whether one is internally fulfilled. You might say, 'Even if I remain unfulfilled, it is a small matter.' The work you have taken up is bigger than your little happiness and sadness, so it does not quite matter how you are feeling. You might be unfulfilled, but you just forgot about it. This is beyondness and this is fulfillment. True success is when thoughts of your personal success stop mattering to you, when you realize there is something more important than your personal success. When you become so engrossed in something large and meaningful that you totally forget your personal appetite, that is real success. For example, if someone points out you are sad, you might reply, 'Am I sad? I just forgot that.' Or if reminded you haven't eaten, you might say, 'Am I hungry? I just forgot that.' This forgetfulness is the only way out, especially for people who have achieved a certain level of worldly attainment—financial, social, intellectual, or familial—and are still not satisfied.
