Acharya Prashant explains that liberation is the freedom from the illusion that one can achieve fulfillment through constant consumption and enjoyment. He defines climate change as the physical manifestation of the belief that life becomes meaningful through the endless pursuit of material pleasures. The current environmental crisis exists because the world is populated by individuals living in bondage to these misconceptions. Therefore, the solution to climate change is liberation—freedom from the internal notions imposed by the body, society, and the market that suggest happiness and satisfaction come from consumption. He further asserts that climate change is not merely a technical issue but a spiritual one, rooted in the mistake of seeking happiness in the wrong places. While science might eventually find a way to remove excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, such a solution would be temporary. If the underlying disease—the deceptive belief that consumption leads to joy—is not addressed, humanity will face other crises or internal decay. He warns that even if we escape environmental catastrophe, we will suffer an internal death as long as we believe that joy can be found by exploiting nature, resources, and other humans. This very belief is synonymous with death.
