Description

Acharya Prashant explains that witnessing is not a specific method or practice that can be performed for a few hours; rather, it is a spiritual way of living. He clarifies that when one is not a witness, they are unconscious, acting as a doer or an enjoyer driven by the thought of profit and loss. Witnessing means living with the realization that ultimately, nothing makes a difference and nothing is to be gained or lost from the worldly spectacle. It is the recognition of the futility of all states of being and represents freedom from them. He uses the analogy of a child standing by the roadside with his father, watching cars pass by without any expectation or desire to board them because what he needs—his father—is already with him. Similarly, a witness understands that they already have what they need and thus observes the movement of life without interference or expectation.
