Description

Acharya Prashant explains the two significant characteristics of the pain of separation, known as Virah. He distinguishes it from ordinary suffering caused by the ego. While ordinary pain has clear causes and visible reasons, the pain of separation is a causeless pain where one feels restless without knowing the location of the wound or the reason for the distress. It is a subtle ache that exists without any apparent external trigger. Unlike common suffering, which people seek to escape, the pain of separation is cherished by saints. Referring to Farid, he notes that this pain is considered supreme, and a body without it is like a graveyard. It is a blessed madness or a sweet pain that one prays to retain rather than be cured of. The seeker is not concerned with reaching a destination or a mountain peak; the joy lies in the journey itself, being pulled by the call of the Beloved. Acharya Prashant further clarifies that the deepest subconscious pain in a human being is actually the pain of separation from the Source. While people often attribute their misery to superficial issues like financial loss or physical appearance, these are merely manifestations of the core pain. He categorizes people into two groups: those who spend their lives treating minor, superficial symptoms, and those who recognize the root cause as separation and seek to address that fundamental longing.
