Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the behavior of landlords evicting doctors out of fear of infection is a reflection of who we are as people. He states that in the absence of religious education and a discerning social consciousness, we are people driven by very narrow and petty self-interests. When this nature manifests dramatically, it seems astonishing and horrifying, but the person exhibiting such behavior has always been this way. The issue is not just with the individual but with the society that has respected such people for a long time. He elaborates that we are all such people, and our ugly, grotesque, and violent personality remains hidden behind our masks. It is during a crisis that these masks fall off, revealing our distorted face, sharp teeth, and claws. He urges people to ask themselves what kind of individuals they are, pointing out that this nature is visible in daily selfish activities, a lack of generosity, and the readiness to harm others for small profits, all while viewing oneself and others merely as bodies. If this is the state of affairs even within families, then it is not surprising that people would commit despicable acts. The speaker distinguishes between the external disease, the pandemic, and the real, internal disease. He is hopeful that a cure for the external disease will be found, but he asserts that this external disease is a product of our internal sickness. Even if the pandemic is eradicated, the internal disease will remain, and it is this inner sickness that is revealed in such incidents. The only cure for this internal disease is education—both meaningful education in science and deep education in spirituality. Only when we have both can we call ourselves complete human beings and live a life of understanding, love, joy, and freedom.
